Unog. After 10 years of renovation work, the celestial sphere has been restored.
The “Celestial Sphere” is the imposing metal sculpture located in the Cour d’honneur of the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. It was erected in 1939 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the League of Nations and to honor U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. It is the masterpiece of American sculptor Paul H. Manship, associated with the Art Deco style.
Its restoration: The Celestial Sphere was dismantled in late November (2020) and transported to Italy for a complete restoration. A life-size replica temporarily replaces it on the site while the bronze sphere is being renovated in Italy.

La « Sphère Céleste » est l’imposante sculpture de métal située dans la Cour d’honneur du Palais des Nations à Genève, suisse. Elle fut érigée en 1939 pour commémorer le 20ème anniversaire de la Société des Nations et honorer le président américain Woodrow Wilson. C’est le chef-d’œuvre du sculpteur américain Paul H. Manship, associé au style Art Déco.
Sa restauration : La Sphère céleste a été démantelée fin novembre (2020) et amenée en Italie pour être entièrement restaurée. Une image grandeur nature la remplace momentanément sur le site, pendant que la sphère en bronze est en cours de rénovation en Italie.
