YouTube Opens Its N.Y. Space to Influential Creators and Their Imaginations. Every inch drives creativity and collaboration

SPACES. Google is probably Silicon Alley’s most famous resident. Taking up a good chunk of New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, the tech giant’s offices are legendarily swank and sleek.

So it’s only natural that Google-owned YouTube would have offices to match the reputation. Opened in November 2014, YouTube Space New York was made to be a place where YouTube creators—ones who have at least 5,000 subscribers—can work, learn, connect and, most importantly, create. Almost every corner and piece of furniture has multiple purposes—even the bathroom can be used as a set for a nightclub or a makeup tutorial.

« We learned from the YouTube spaces that came before that, one, creators want to shoot everywhere, in all rooms, » said Adam Relis, head of YouTube Space New York. « And, two, that we want to maximize the use of the space. Many areas have double or triple uses. »

“This is an example of a ‘permanent set,’” said Relis. “The YouTube space caters to creators of all sizes, so in addition to having the black-box-style sets, we have a few permanent sets where a creator can just set up a camera and go! »
