Palestine. Ceasefire. « A feeling that is indescribable. » Jubilant scenes in Gaza following ceasefire announcement

The streets of Gaza saw rare scenes of celebration after Hamas and Israel agreed to a ceasefire and hostage deal.
FEELING Deir al-Balah in central Gaza showed crowded streets of people cheering, jumping, clapping and waving the Palestinian flag. The sound of celebratory gunfire could be heard in the background. Some of those celebrating gathered in the yard of Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, which has been receiving the casualties of Israeli strikes for more than a year.
“A feeling that is indescribable, we never expected to get to this stage, even now we don’t believe,” said Alaa Abu Karsh, who described news of the deal as “a very big surprise for the Palestinian people and the whole world.”
“We wish many people could be celebrating this moment with us, but they are now in a better place,” he said, adding that he was looking forward to returning home to north Gaza.
Reuters video from Khan Younis in southern Gaza showed an impromptu parade in a marketplace, where one man was hoisted aloft in the crowd drumming on a tabla while others blew whistles.
“By our souls and blood, we will sacrifice for you, O Aqsa!” they chanted, a popular Palestinian saying that refers to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
Displaced Palestinian Abdallah Al-Baysouni said he was looking forward to reuniting with his family in the north.
“By God, we are very happy that this crisis, sadness, bombing and death that happened to us is finally over and that we will return to our hometowns and return to our families,” he said. “The greatest joy is to see my brothers who left and my family who left, whom I have not seen for more than a year.”
